 I retired July 1, 2025.

This website contains the history of Grafton High School Drama Department for the years I was director. Please check out the history tab for pictures, programs, videos, etc. We no longer keep the calendar up to date because the new director has opted not to use this resource.

I can’t tell you how much I miss this place and the students, but it was time to let younger blood take over. I like to think that people will still check out the work that decades of students created. It was always my belief that the students should run the show—creating sets, props, costumes, light and sound cues, and stage managing, as well as acting. Students constantly amazed me with their capabilities. It is my hope that I gave my students a place to call home--to feel safe and capable. I tried to give them skills that they could carry into their lives. I loved them—even the tough ones.

So now I am a cat lady with two new kittens (almost cats) and I have time to go to Disney World with my kids and grandkids. If you miss me or want to check in with me—I am on Facebook.

Love and, literally, thanks for the memories.
Love always,
Ms. Cindy Kreicar

A Note From Cindy Kreicar

I never seriously considered teaching anything other than Drama.  It has been my passion for as long as I can remember.  Despite dire predictions from friends and family of the lack of jobs for Drama teachers, I walked out of college and into a full time position at the middle school level in Newport News.  After six years of teaching at that level and building a strong program, I moved to Grafton High School, where I am teaching now.

I love my job.  It is challenging, exasperating, and exhilarating all at once.  Theatre offers teenagers an opportunity to experience the theatre process as performers, and backstage workers.  They become confident, responsible young adults who understand how to work in an ensemble and to problem solve “outside” of the box.  I have had the pleasure of watching shy students overcome their reluctance to speak up, wild students learn self-discipline, talented students find their strengths, and some students even find their talent for the first time.  I am constantly realizing how desperately students need the arts in this age of science and technology. Theatre offers them the opportunity to build skills that will prepare them for any line of work they choose and to express themselves and their world creatively to others.  I work to be a strong influence in their lives and to be an advocate of Theatre both in my community and in education.
