Authorities find body of missing camper
By Derreck Booth Editor
DAHLONEGA -- The body of a young camper was discovered Wednesday following an hours-long search for him in north Lumpkin County.
Sheriff's Lt. Wesley Burnett said 16 year old Ryan Edwards never returned to his Desoto Falls area campsite following a walk after dark Tuesday night. Authorities responded around 8:00 a.m. Wednesday after getting a call that 16 year old Ryan Edwards was missing. He'd been camping with his mother, according to Burnett. Sheriff's office authorities and Lumpkin County Fire and Emergency Services crews searched the area. "Several hours after the call had come in of him missing from the campsite, he was located at the base of one of the falls," Burnett said. He said it's possible Edwards may have fallen from the top of the falls, but investigators don't yet have confirmation on the cause of death. "Criminal investigators have returned from the scene, but at this point it does just seem that it was an accidental incident which caused the death," Burnett said. Burnett said Edwards was living in Virginia, but had been a recent resident of Georgia. |

Notes From The Director
Our state presentation of JungalBook was dedicated to my “Wild Child”, Ryan Edwards.
Ryan moved through his short life at a furious pace—pushing himself to the limits of his physical and mental capabilities. From boogie boarding down the stairs and creating “plasma” for the good of mankind, to using magnetic shoes to climb the lockers or walk the beam in the atrium, his natural zest for life ricocheted through the Grafton Drama Department lighting up everything it passed. His kind heart and creative spirit touched us all and we loved him.
I chose Jungalbook because of its playful nature (the set is a playground that I would have had to chase Ryan off of everyday) and its serious themes. Ryan restlessly searched for his place in this world as does Mowgli. Though he knew the natural world intimately, it was still a dangerous place for him as the jungle is for Mowgli.
I offer this show to you as my way of honoring a soul that has made a great impact on my life and the life of everyone who had the pleasure (and exasperation) of knowing him. Whenever the lights blink or do unusual chases in the middle of auditions, I know he is with us still and my heart aches even as I find myself laughing at his exploits. I hope he has finally found his answers.
With much love and through tears,
Cindy Kreicar
